About

SCAN has been assisting families with finding the resources they need and a path forward for 50 years.

  • Since 1974, SCAN has walked alongside families during their toughest moments to find paths forward and help build the future parents want for their children.

    Over the last 50 years, we’ve grown to help meet the needs of our community, including supporting mental health. We believe that sometimes we all need someone to talk to and be supported by. Our trained team of counselors is here to be that someone for you.

First Visit

Starting your counseling journey can be intimidating. We’re here to help make the process of starting easier.

  • The journey to beginning counseling services with SCAN starts by filling out the referral form by clicking here or the button below. This form will ask you a few questions to help get you started and matched with a counselor. If you would rather speak to someone on the phone, give us a call at 260-426-9999.

    After you have your information entered, our team will be in touch with you to schedule your first visit with your counselor, finding a time that works best for you and determining if you’d like to meet in-person or virtually.

    During your first visit, you and your counselor will discuss what you are hoping to achieve through counseling and help identify how to help you do so.

  • SCAN’s team of counselors is composed of qualified individuals who have a passion for helping people.

    All of SCAN’s counseling staff have graduated with a Master’s degree in a counseling related field, are licensed clinical providers, or are working on obtaining their clinical license, and are qualified to work with a wide array of populations and conditions.

Family Therapy

Meet our team of counselors

 

Mikayla Deisler, MSW, LSW

Mikayla is a therapist who works with children, adolescents, adults, and families to promote holistic development. She facilitates the Alternatives to Anger and Control (AAC) Group, fostering vulnerability, processing reactive strategies, and developing healthier responses to learned behaviors. With a strong commitment to the Person-in-Environment framework, Mikayla empowers individuals and families to navigate life’s challenges and promote meaningful personal growth.

She believes that “Life’s challenges are a shared human experience; transitions can be especially formidable, frequently resulting in feelings of overwhelm or disconnection. Therapy serves as a supportive space for reflection, processing emotions, and acquiring new strategies to navigate discomfort and enhance well-being.”

Shawn Westfall, LCMHC

Shawn is a therapist with a master’s degree in clinical mental health from Purdue Fort Wayne, working towards full licensure as an LCMHC. She is certified in running the Abuse Intervention Program (AIP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). As one of the facilitators for a female AIP group, Shawn is passionate about supporting survivors of domestic violence. In her personal life, she is a mom of three and enjoys reading, especially thrillers.
