Standing Alongside Families

Peter and Wanda’s are parents in a family of six. Having four kids on its own is a handful but it is even more difficult when three of Peter and Wanda’s children have special needs. Between the weight of handle family life and struggling to pay the rent, the family found themselves in need of assistance. This is where they found themselves working with SCAN to help with their housing and figure out the best ways to move forward as a family.

During this time, Peter began a new job but shortly after starting his new position, he was infected with COVID-19. Peter had a pre-existing condition and found himself with secondary infections as a result of having COVID-19. Due to this and his pre-existing medical condition, Peter found himself confined to a wheelchair for multiple months.

Peter’s job was able to accommodate this and allowed him to take a position where he could be seated while at work. However, this role was not full-time, and his family continued to need assistance to get by.

One day the family’s SCAN worker arrived for their regular meeting with the family and Wanda was in tears. They had just gotten the good news that Peter was going to be able to get the treatment he needed to once again be able to stand and walk on his own. The entire family was excited, and Peter was thrilled to be regaining his mobility.

After starting the treatment, Peter’s employers told him that they had been happy with his work that once he was able to, they wanted to train him for a position in whichever department he felt he was best fit for. The family said that SCAN’s help was instrumental to help them maintain stability during this whole process and move forward as a family. Now as Peter was moving into his new position, the family is well on their way to financial stability.
